Raffi's Round Up - SUPERBOWL SPECIAL - w/c 7th February 2024
The five best Marketing-related nuggets across my desk this week
Welcome to the SUPERBOWL SPECIAL edition of my weekly Round Up!
Greetings from my Superbowl Sunday excitement zone in London (sadly not New Orleans) where I’ve been inspired after our private event with the Head of Substack’s Writer Partnerships this week! Here are the five best Marketing-related nuggets (all Superbowl ads) that came across my desk this week:
ONE (if you want to see how challenger brands are approaching things, watch this one)
Federer x Elmo - an unlikely combination but one that works for On. It’s fun, it’s kind of weird, but playful enough to be memorable.
TWO (if you want to feel the nostalgia of a great 20th century movie, watch this one)
I must reveal a soft spot for the original film but this is a simple concept well executed… It’s also smart because when it comes on you’re going to get a lot of “is that When Harry Met Sally?!” and focus on the screen.
THREE (if you want to see how the real football is thinking about things, watch this one)
The AFC Wrexham bandwagon goes from strength to strength…
FOUR (if you want the winner of the big day, watch this one)
This had big flop potential, but it comes out perfectly. Also worth noting how much pre-game OOH they ran for this… If you’re going to invest that much in the ad, it can’t hurt to put a little bit more behind the pre-hype.
FIVE (if you want to dial in to the big game from an alternative angle, read this one)
I was lucky enough to be in Philadelphia a few weeks back.
This piece on “How Italian Culture Bonds the Eagles Amid a Super Bowl Run” gets me excited about the next Chicken Parm at Ralph’s…
