Raffi's Round Up - w/c 10th February 2024
The five best Marketing-related nuggets across my desk this week
Welcome to the latest edition of my weekly Round Up!
Greetings from a busy Friday lunchtime where I’m gearing up for a week of customer on-sites in North America! Here are the five best Marketing-related nuggets that came across my desk this week:
ONE (if you want to get another angle on the attention economy, listen to this one)
Every brand in the world is trying to win the attention battle, and this podcast on Outrage Fatigue got me thinking about how we are reacting and resisting brands’ various efforts (beyond the obvious “ad-blockers are everywhere!!!” claim)
One point that landed in particular: “So the real danger is that we become apathetic, and if we’re exposed to something all the time—whether it’s through social media or even traditional news sources like cable TV—if it’s constantly telling us to be outraged, eventually we’re gonna be less responsive and we’re gonna kind of pull back.”
Take it for a spin here.
TWO (if you want to see what the speed of culture really means, look at this one)
10 mil views on X and $0 to produce, United Airlines are the real Superbowl winners.
Turns out, just clipping the halftime show with some good copy can deliver a hell of a lot of reach...

THREE (if you want more evidence that Nike is back, watch this one)
We had this chat on a team trip to a customer this week, and we all agreed that Nike had become too safe and sanitised…
I like the irreverence and (almost) weirdness of this ad - under the direction of their new CMO. Watch it here.
FOUR (if you want to see a fun application of AI in music, listen to this one)
Kendrick Lamar and Charli XCX must be two of the most talked about artists in the last year…
Now you can listen to their smash hits mashed up into a music video.
Check it out here.
FIVE (if you need a reminder to stop reading this newsletter and pick up a book instead, try this one)
“It’s terrifying how much of the content we consume was created within the last 24hrs.”
Someone said that to me recently and it hit hard!
